South America is the fourth largest continent in the world and is the fourth most populated continent the world.
The continent is named after Amerigo Vespucci who was the first one to suggest that the Americas were a new world unknown to the people of Europe and that it should not be confused with the West Indies.
The continent of South America is known for its natural beauty and the Amazon rain forests. The country is also known for its sporting prowess, it has a natural flair for the game of soccer. Teams from countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay have achieved considerable success in the game over the years.
The continent had undergone a lot of turmoil during the cold war era; several governments of countries like Brazil, Argentina and Chile were overthrown by the United States Government directly or indirectly.
In the nineties the countries have shown resurgence and slowly they are treading the path of Europe, they have formulated a South American Community of Nations to enhance economic cooperation and slowly political integration will be possible on the lines of European Union.
The continent generally has a high rate of unemployment, as of 2002 every ten people out of hundred were jobless; however there are countries like Brazil which represent a brighter side of things. Brazil is touted to be one of the emerging economies of the world along with countries like Russia, India and China.
The country is also known for its fun loving people who love their music, there is the samba from Brazil and tango from Argentina. The carnivals of Brazil are perhaps the most famous of the world and they attract millions of visitors from all over the world with parties happening till late in the night.
